Smash Cake photography sessions are a great way to celebrate and capture your baby's key milestones, like the first birthday, in a fun and memorable way. Naturally, kids love playing with food and making a mess. During this session, your baby has a wonderful opportunity to eat, play, explore, and get messy while we capture the most adorable and unique photos that will bring a smile to your face for many years to come.

The Flash - Before the Cake
We start off with some cute baby portraits without the mess. We take some gorgeous pictures of your baby.
At this stage, we can incorporate family members if you want to get an updated photo with the family or a family portrait to mark the special occasion. This is the perfect time to do this. This step helps the baby get familiar with their environment and get into the swing of things.
The Smash - The Main Event
This is when we bring out the cake. First, we take some cute baby photos with the cake.
Then the smashing begins. We encourage your baby to dig in and get messy.
In the meantime, I will be capturing adorable photos of your baby having a wonderful time!
The Splash - The Clean-Up
Following the messy fun, we continue with a different type of fun—the clean-up. We use a small bath with warm water and bubbles (using your baby's own products). We splash and have fun again while capturing the sweetest of memories!

Why should I book a Smash Cake photoshoot?
What better way to celebrate your baby's key milestones than with beautiful, unique smash cake portraits. I love to celebrate birthdays, including the very special milestone 1st birthday.
Smash cake sessions are all about getting a variety of photos of your little one. We start with cute little poses with a lovely personalized set-up before the fun-filled cake smashing madness takes place. We then finish up with a bubble-filled splash in the tub!
We work together to design a totally unique setup just for your child. You will then receive a selection of images to treasure for many years to come.
When should I schedule a Smash photoshoot?
You can schedule your smash cake session any time once your baby is sitting up. Many of my clients schedule on or around their baby's birthday.
What better way to celebrate your baby's actual birthday than with a fun-filled session.
Alternatively, you can schedule your smash cake photography session before their birthday, around 11 months, so you can use the cute pictures for the party invites.
Where do the smash cake photoshoot sessions take place?
The smash cake sessions take place in the comfort of my Dublin Family Photography studio in Ashtown, Dublin 15. It is a clean and welcoming space, fully equipped with snacks and props for your family's comfort.
How long will my smash cake photoshoot Dublin session take?
Your session will take between 45 minutes to an hour. The atmosphere is very relaxed, and we pace the session based on your child and their needs.
What should we wear for the smash cake photos?
I would suggest wearing something comfortable that allows you to move freely and something that you feel good in. I also recommend wearing soft-toned, solid colours, avoiding loud prints and patterns so that we can keep the focus on everyone's faces.
For the smash cake session, just choose a cute outfit that you want your child to be photographed in.
Who supplies props for the session?
I supply all the props for the smash cake photography sessions!
We will work together before the session to agree on a theme and colour scheme for your photoshoot. Together we will create a beautiful setup that will be special, but will ensure your baby is the focus of attention.
Do you provide the cake for smashing?
I include a yummy custom-made cake from a local bakery in every session. This is a lovely cake made specifically for smashing.
We can customise the cake based on your baby's preferences and dietary needs, sugar free, allergens free.
Whatever your child doesn't eat, you get to take home - Bonus!
What if my baby has allergies?
If your baby has any allergies, please let me know ahead of time, and we can factor in any dietary requirements when ordering your cake.
What can I expect from my smash cake session?
A whole lot of messy fun and some really cute photos that will capture key memories for years to come. Smash cake sessions take place in 3 parts.
Part 1 – We start with cute little poses with a lovely personalized set-up that reflects you and your baby's preference.
Part 2 - The fun-filled cake smashing madness takes place. We take pictures of your child enjoying the cake.
Part 3 - We then finish up with a bubble-filled splash in the tub!
What happens during my session?
Before your session, we'll discuss what kind of theme you want for your smash cake photos. We will then start by taking family photographs with all family members (including furry friends if you want to include them).
Once the family shots are complete, I will focus on the birthday boy/girl and then will introduce the cake for the smash cake photos, where the fun and mess takes place. Finally, we will end with photos of your child splashing around in the tub!
My home studio is fully equipped with snacks and entertainment to keep the kids fed and entertained during the session.
How long will it take to get the photos after the shoot?
You will receive a gallery of a selection of photos to choose your favourite photos from within a week.
You will receive your edited images within 2-3 weeks from your session date and be able to view them in an online gallery set up just for you!
